ARMOUR      Action for Responsible Management of our Rivers

A Voice for Water

Armour was launched in October 2015 with a mandate to address the sewage entering the Jukskei River from Northern Wastewater Treatment Works at Diepsloot.

We since expanded to become  “A Voice for Water” for the catchment areas of Gauteng.

The catchment areas bound by :

Jukskei-Crocodile-Hennops system (north) and the Klip-Blesbok system (south).

This will extend to include all the rivers of Gauteng and Hartbeespoort Dam in North West.

  • Supporting Joburg Water in programming major maintenance and repairs at Northern Works.
  • Maintaining a monthly liaison with Joburg Water to support them in meeting their commitments to improved management of sewerage and waste water.
  • Regular feedback to the stakeholders of our rivers and waterways on status and progress.
  • Extending ARMOUR’s outreach to other river forums in Gauteng.
  • Raising awareness of the enormity of the clean-river challenge and getting civic involvement in this.
  • Using the civic forums available, eg City of Joburg Business Forum, Ward Committees, IDP meetings, to make “a voice for water” heard.
  • Winning the Water Category in the 2016 Mail & Guardian Greening the Future awards
